These terms are used interchangeably to mean a process in which the services of a third party are used to help disputing parties to arrive at a mutually agreeable solution.

In statutory conciliation, the process is not voluntary and the conciliator is allocated to the parties. In private conciliation, the parties can choose their conciliator.
